1. Introduction
UnifiedMail is an Android email app that brings several mailboxes into one inbox. It is published by an independent developer (hereafter “we”). It contains no advertising and no advertising SDK. This policy describes what data is processed, how, and what rights you have.

2. Your emails stay between your phone and your mail servers
UnifiedMail connects directly from your phone to the mail servers of your providers (IMAP to read, SMTP to send). We run no server that receives, stores, relays or analyses your emails, addresses, contacts or passwords. We never see them.
The messages you download (headers, previews, bodies and attachments you open) are stored in a database on your device so that they are available offline and searchable. The search is entirely local. Deleting an account in the app erases its local data and its secrets; uninstalling the app erases everything.
3. Account passwords and tokens
Passwords (including app passwords) and Microsoft sign-in tokens are encrypted on your device (AES-GCM, key held by the Android Keystore) and are used only to sign in to your own mail servers. They are excluded from Android backups and device transfers, and are never sent to us or to any third party.
For Outlook, Hotmail and Live accounts, sign-in goes through the Microsoft sign-in page (OAuth 2.0): the app never sees your Microsoft password. See Microsoft's privacy statement. For Gmail, iCloud and Yahoo you create an app password with your provider and enter it in the app.
4. Automatic server detection
When you add an account, the app looks up your provider's mail settings. Only the domain of your address (for example example.com) is sent, never the part before the @ nor your password, to: the Thunderbird configuration database (autoconfig.thunderbird.net), your domain's own configuration addresses (autoconfig.<domain> and <domain>/.well-known/autoconfig), and, if needed, a DNS-over-HTTPS resolver (Cloudflare, cloudflare-dns.com) to read the domain's mail record. These requests use HTTPS. See Cloudflare's privacy policy and Mozilla's.
5. Remote images and links in emails
Remote images in emails are blocked by default, which also blocks tracking pixels. If you choose to display them (once, always, or for a trusted sender), your device downloads them from the sender's server, which can then see that you opened the message. The email viewer runs no JavaScript. Links open in your browser, after confirmation when the displayed text differs from the real address. The “Unsubscribe” button, always after your confirmation, contacts the address indicated by the sender.
6. Purchases and donations (Google Play Billing)
The one-off purchase “UnifiedMail +” and the donations go through Google Play Billing. Payment is handled by Google; we receive no card or payment information, only the confirmation that a purchase was made. Your entitlement is checked with Google Play at each launch. See Google Play's privacy notice.
7. Crash reports (Firebase Crashlytics)
To fix bugs, the app uses Firebase Crashlytics (Google). If the app crashes, a technical report is sent: the error's technical trace, device model, Android version, app version and a random Firebase installation identifier. These reports contain no email address, server name, subject or message content: errors from the mail library are converted into a simple category (authentication, network, certificate, server, quota, unknown) before any report. Nothing is sent in debug builds.
Purpose: stability. Legal basis: our legitimate interest. Retention: 90 days on Firebase's side. Opt-out: enabled by default, can be turned off at any time in Settings → Privacy and data. See Firebase's privacy information.
8. Anonymous statistics (Firebase Analytics)
Disabled by default, in every country. Nothing is collected unless you turn on “Anonymous statistics” on the welcome screen or in Settings → Privacy and data; you can turn it off at any time. When enabled, the app records only categories and ranges: provider type when adding an account (Gmail, Outlook, other…) and detection method, the category of an error, swipe action type, unsubscribe method, ranges of search results, whether a sent message had an attachment, whether a message send was undone, whether the lock was enabled, where the UnifiedMail + card was shown, and the donation tier. Never an address, a domain, a server name, a subject, a message content or an exact number of messages. Events are tied to a random Firebase installation identifier, not to your identity. The advertising identifier is not collected and the advertising purposes of Analytics are disabled.
Legal basis: your consent. Processor: Google / Firebase.
9. Feedback
The “Write to us” card in Settings lets you send us a message. Sending is voluntary and only happens when you press Send. The message goes to a Supabase project shared by the publisher's apps, with: the text you typed, the app name and version, your Android version, device model and language. Please do not put personal information or email content in it. Messages are kept only as long as needed to improve the app; you can ask for deletion at any time. See Supabase's privacy policy.
10. Notifications, biometric lock and permanent push
Notifications: built on the device from the messages already downloaded; their content is hidden on the lock screen. No notification server is involved. Biometric lock (optional): uses the Android system prompt (fingerprint, face or device code); we never receive biometric data. Permanent push (UnifiedMail +, optional): a foreground service keeps an IMAP connection open to your own mail servers to notify you immediately; a permanent notification shows it is running.
11. Android permissions used
- Internet and network state: connect to your mail servers and detect network changes.
- Notifications: announce new messages (asked on first launch, can be refused).
- Foreground service and start at boot: permanent push only, restarted after a reboot.
- No access to your contacts, files, location, camera or microphone. Attachments are chosen or opened through the system file picker.
12. Data we do not collect
- Your emails, addresses, contacts, passwords or tokens
- Your location, contacts, photos, files
- Any advertising identifier, any advertising profile
- Your name, phone number or any account with us (the app needs no sign-up)
13. Communication security
Connections to mail servers use SSL/TLS or STARTTLS as configured for the account; the app reports invalid certificates. All other network traffic (server detection, purchases, crash reports, statistics, feedback) goes over HTTPS.
14. Sharing data with third parties
We do not sell, rent or share your data. The following services process data on their own account, under their own policies: your mail providers (they receive and store your emails, per their own policy), Google Play (purchases), Google / Firebase (crash reports, and statistics if you enable them), Supabase (feedback), Microsoft (Outlook sign-in), Cloudflare and Mozilla (server detection, domain only).
15. Your rights (GDPR)
We hold no data that directly identifies you. Your emails and accounts stay on your device, and you can delete them at any time (delete an account, or uninstall). You can stop crash reports and statistics in Settings. You may ask us for access to or deletion of the feedback you sent, or of crash and statistics data tied to your installation, by writing to mfodevhub@gmail.com; since this data is not linked to your identity, we may ask for details such as the date or your app version. For emails stored by your mail provider or purchases handled by Google Play, please refer to those providers. You may also lodge a complaint with your data protection authority.
16. Data retention
Local data stays on your device until you delete the account or uninstall the app. Crash reports: 90 days on Firebase's side. Statistics: according to Firebase's settings. Feedback: as long as needed to process it.
17. Children
UnifiedMail is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect data from minors.
18. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy. For a substantial change, the “last updated” date above will be revised.
